São Paulo Biennial
majorThe São Paulo Biennial (Bienal de São Paulo) is the second oldest biennial in the world, founded in 1951 by industrialist and patron Francisco Matarazzo Sobrinho. Held every two years in the landmark Ciccillo Matarazzo Pavilion in Ibirapuera Park, it is the largest recurring contemporary art event in Latin America. The São Paulo Biennial has historically served as a bridge between Latin American artistic production and international modernism, and its recent editions have centered on questions of ecology, decolonization, and the relationship between human and non-human life.
