Capsule Shanghai at Art Basel in Hong Kong 2018

Capsule Shanghai is pleased to present a new site specific installation by Feng Chen, The Darker Side of Light - Color. Feng Chen designs a space both disorienting and fascinating that invites the audience to experience shifts in sensory perception, questioning our judgment of what is real and what is not. Upon entering the cubed space, viewers are immersed in an ambience of white light augmented by subtly pulsing LED lights. The viewer puts on a wireless headset, blocking all external sound. From the upper west corner, a camera records the viewer and the surrounding environment, transferring real-time images onto monitors, each displaying a different angle of the space. The images reflect partial reality, as the artist intervenes into the space, through an intricate system of synchronization of images and light. The bright space then appears in darkness on the screens, while music plays through the headset, creating a multi-sensory experience.
