Documenta 1955 was the first edition of the renowned contemporary art exhibition, held in Kassel, Germany. Conceived by Arnold Bode, the exhibition aimed to reintegrate Germany into the international art scene after World War II. It featured 670 works by 148 artists, including prominent figures like Pablo Picasso, Wassily Kandinsky, and Paul Klee. The event was a response to the Nazi suppression of modern art and marked the beginning of a new cultural tradition in post-war Germany. Documenta 1955 was highly successful, drawing over 130,000 visitors.
