Sharjah Biennial
majorThe Sharjah Biennial is the Arab world's foremost international contemporary art exhibition, held every two years in the Emirate of Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates. Founded in 1993 by Sheikha Hoor Al Qasimi, who has served as its president and director, the biennial is known for its commitment to artists and perspectives from Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the Arab world. It has been a pioneering platform for centering the Global South in international contemporary art discourse, with site-specific commissions, major residency programs, and a dedicated research and publishing arm.
